NIGERIA: OGUN State Police Commissioner, Ahmed Iliyasu, has attributed his command’s success in combating crimes and criminals to community policing.

Iliyasu made this known at an award ceremony conferred on him‎ as the Best Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) Friendly Commissioner of Police by the committee, held at the police headquarters in Abeokuta.

“My command success and achievements and what we are recording are as a result of good people of Ogun State and cooperation of PCRC,” the Commissioner said, adding: “People policing remain best to tackle crime.”

Iliyasu, who stated that this can be achieved through confidence of the people, maintained that the command cannot afford not to work with the people which informed the command’s decision to partner with the committee.

He said: “We cannot afford not to work with the people.  We have designed micro PCRC unit with the cooperation of the body.  We shall continue to partner with PCRC and other sister agencies of the police.”

The Commissioner also acknowledged the roles of the media in genuinely supporting the command in the war against crimes.

Iliyasu stressed that the command’s success story would be incomplete without the support of the media.

“Let me use this opportunity to appreciate the Press in Ogun State, which has become our partner in crime fighting.  They even followed us to hazardous crime scenes,” he explained.

Earlier, the state Chapter Chairman of PCRC, Habeeb Olaniyan, had said that the award was based on the leadership quality of the police boss.

Olaniyan, who was accompanied by other executives of the committee, commended the command over the recent feat recorded with the arrest and parade of 53 suspects.

According to him, the command remained the best in crime fighting.
