CANADA: POLICE in Ottawa, Canada has arrested a 27-year-old man who stabbed a Nigerian student, Solomon Odekunle, to death.

GatewayMail learnt that Joe-Bryan Ndikuriyo, who appeared in court last Monday, killed Odekunle, a final year Bachelor degree student of Economics and Political Science at the University of Ottawa, barely a month to his graduation from the university.

The suspect was alleged to have killed the 21-year-old Nigerian, who came to Canada in 2012, last Sunday at the Piper’s Bar & Grill in Ottawa under the influence of alcohol after both argued over a girl-friend.

Ndikuriyo was charged with second-degree murder and also attempted murder for injuring Odekunle’s friend subsequently after stabbing the victim on the neck.

The Nigerian, who had planned to move to Hamilton after graduation in search of job, was said to be bleeding profusely after been hit on the throat and later collapsed on Coventry Road, few steps away from St. Laurent Shopping Centre in the capital of Canada.

GatewayMail gathered that the Paramedics were promptly called and they made frantic efforts to resuscitate Odekunle said to be a devout member of the Redeemed Christian Church of God Living Spring Tabernacle in Gloucester.

He was later pronounced dead at the hospital while his injured friend, who sustained minor injury, was treated at the hospital.

Police confirmed that Ndikuriyo, who fled the scene, was later apprehended Sunday noon at his friend’s home.

Odekunle’s father was Tuesday expected to arrive Canada, where he also has a daughter living in Toronto.

Police Staff Sgt. Bruce Pirt said that the police were working on analyzing the blood and other relevant pieces of evidence – like the video recordings within the vicinity and calling on volunteers who witnessed the development to provide information on what happened.

“We’re not sure if it’s all evidence but let’s capture it, both on camera and physically, and we’ll decide later on what really is evidence and what isn’t,” Pirt said, adding: “Right now let’s keep the scene big and gather everything we can because we only have one crack at a scene.”

He added: “We do have some bloodletting that covered quite an extensive area; we have to make sure it’s all connected to the same incident.

“As we investigate further we’ll be able to tighten up that scene and make it smaller and smaller.”
