Alleged rape lands two teenagers in police net

NIGERIA: TWO teenagers have been nabbed in Ogun State for alleged rape.
The suspects – Kehinde Oloyede (18) and Abiodun Ishola (19) – became the guests of the police after they allegedly raped a 14-year-old girl (name withheld) in Obantoko area of Odeda Local Government.
The Police Command Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, told journalists on Tuesday that the suspects were apprehended last April 28 following complaint by the victim.
According to him, the victim, who was a hairdressing apprentice, explained that she was on the way to her boss’ shop when the incident happened.
Oyeyemi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, further stressed that the girl said she was unaware that there was environmental sanitation exercise on the day of the incident.
The police image maker said that the victim explained that she saw Abiodun who sat in front of his father’s house and informed her of the restriction of movement.
Abiodun thereafter, according to Oyeyemi, urged the victim to stay in the house till the end of the sanitation exercise.
The PPRO said that victim told the police that while she agreed to stay Abiodun deliberately kept her bag inside the house.
And when it was time for her to leave, Oyeyemi further said, Abiodun told the victim to go inside and pick her bag not knowing that he had sent for Kehinde.
Immediately the girl entered, the teenagers raped her, but her screaming attracted neighbours who besieged the house and rescued her.
Following the report to the police, Oyeyemi said that the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Obantoko Division, Veronica Osakwe, led detectives to the scene where Abiodun was arrested while Kehinde was later apprehended.
“On interrogation they both confessed to the commission of the crime,” Oyeyemi said, adding: “The victim has been taken to general hospital for medical examination.”
He stated that the Police Commissioner, Mr. Ahmed Iliyasu, had directed that the suspects be transferred to Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.

Man, two younger Africans rape younger African! Maybe customs can be nice to them enuff to tell them why it’s wrong to rape but what will happen to them when they clue in on what rape is. That could be cruel to both the suspects and the victim!
