NIGERIA: THE Rotary Club of Ojodu has donated projects worth N10.6 million to Isheri Senior Grammar School Ojodu in Lagos State.
The gesture to renovate block of six classrooms and a library complex was taken as part of the club’s commitment to Rotary’s values, philosophy and to ensure a better society, the Chairman, Public Image of the club, Rotarian Ezenwa Opara, said in a news release made available to GatewayMail.
He also stressed that the move was in line with Rotary’s goal of strengthening the capacity of communities and to support basic education and literacy.
According to Opara, the project was commissioned and handed over to the principal, staff and students of the school recently by the visiting Inspiration District Governor, District 9110, Rotarian Kola Sodipo.
Sodipo, at the event, said that the activities of the club within Ojodu community were a kind show of the Rotary Club’s values of service to humanity, peaceful coexistence and humanitarian assistance.
“This is what Rotary is all about: selfless service to the people and community without expecting anything in return,” he said, while urging the principal, staff and students to manage and maintain the facilities.
However, in his show of appreciation on the projects, the school’s Principal, Mr. Oke expressed gratitude to the club for extending a hand of fellowship and by showing that education is pivotal in the development of children and the nation at large.
Oke said: “You have given my school a sense of belonging by choosing our school for the project.”
Similarly, while speaking on the club’s contributions in Ojodu community, the President, Rotary Club of Ojodu, Rotarian Churchill Nwagwu, noted that the projects were funded by members of the club, which started in 2002 and was chartered on March 8, 2005.
He, however, called on well-meaning Nigerians to join hands with Rotary to help improve the society by paying less concentration on being human and more on being kind.
“Today we handed over a block of six classrooms fully renovated and a library to Isheri Senior Grammar School among other projects lined up within the Rotary year,” Nwagwu, who is the 14th President of the club, said.
“We are doing all these with our resources because we believe in helping people,” he said, adding: “We believe life is worth living when you live and help others.”
“We call on NGOs and individuals to support us and help make our society and, by extension, the world a better place for all,” the club’s president further said.
