NIGERIA: THE Nigerian National League (NNL) has advised the government on ways to ensure the development of sports

According to the Chief Executive Officer of the body, Bukola Olopade, government can only spend more funds in order to revolutionize the sector.

Olopade, gave the advice on Thursday at the Moshood Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta while featuring as guest of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Ogun State Chapter.

*Bukola Olopade…Wants government to develop sports.

He accused Ogun State, where he was once the Sports and Youth Commissioner that hosted the National Sports Festival, as one of the states that has not shown enough commitment to sports development.

Olopade, who hosted the Junior World Soccer Championship during his tenure, bemoaned the decline of sports in the state after the administration Governor Gbenga Daniel.

According to him, the sports sector could serve as revenue generation for the state in the nearest future than infrastructural development, which, according to him, is the focal point of the Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.

He counselled Amosun against playing politics with sports development, but rather to learn from the sports achievements recorded by Daniel administration and improve on it.

‎The NNL boss, who praised Amosun for laying the Mundo track at the Abiola stadium, also said that some of the roads being constructed in the state can be used for marathon race in the future.

‎Olopade urged the state government to reactivate local and grassroots sports competitions in order to put into use some of the sporting facilities that are wasting away at the local level.

According to him, by so doing athletes that could represent the state and the country at international competitions would be discovered.
