NIGERIA: RESIDENTS of Itoku-Elewe in Ogun State have been relocated from their villages to pave way for the proposed President Muhammadu Buhari Estate in Kobape area of Obafemi-Owode Local Government.

The Senator Ibikunle Amosun-led administration had demolished the mud houses and constructed new houses, few metres away from the estate.

Amosun on Tuesday while presenting the houses to some of the beneficiaries from the eight villages affected by the housing scheme‎ said that the new buildings were fitted with modern amenities.

The Governor explained that the new houses were in line with the pledge he made that the mud houses would be demolished to pave way for the estate, while new ones would be constructed as replacement.

He also said that more houses are underway for those who could not get during the current allocation.

Amosun praised the villagers for releasing their land for the development of the Buhari Estate, while also trusting in him to deliver on his promises to build new ones for them.

He stated that his administration would never take the support of the people for granted.

“Today’s event is a fulfillment of a pledge I earlier made to the villagers.  I know what land is to our people,” the Governor said, adding: “So when I spoke with the villagers and their leaders, and they willingly released their land, I was humbled.”

He added: “And you will remember that I promised to construct new houses for the villagers.  In all, eight villages are involved.

“And we said we would construct 96 houses.  Today, we have delivered 16.  We are not stopping until we fulfill our promises.”

Amosun said in the presence of the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, and the Olowu of Owu, Oba Adegboyega Dosunmu, that the new houses would enjoy modern facilities, together with constant electricity and water.

These amenities, he added, would be available through the Estate for the relocated villagers.

Earlier, the Ogun State Commissioner for Housing, Segun Abiodun, had expressed delight with the steps taken by government so far, while emphasizing that it was indeed a watershed in the history of the estate.

Oba Gbadebo and Oba Dosunmu, at the event, said that they were indeed happy with the project and commended the Amosun for fulfilling his promises to the people.
