“The demolition exercise which started on Friday covers gas pipeline located around Oju-Ore in Ota, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State where some people in deviance to several warning by the Corps had erected different types of illegal structures on Shell gas pipeline that supplies industries in Sango and Agbara.

Olanrewaju stated that the illegal structures were erected directly on pipeline’s right-of-way and were built without considering the dangers inherent in such actions.

He recalled that the Corps had sent several warning notices, in form of letters, sensitization and had one-on-one discussion with the affected people, but they remained adamant.

The spokesperson also said that the command had warned the people living in that community not to encroach on the tight-of-way, while explaining to them the dangers it posed to their lives, properties and the environment.

Olanrewaju maintained that the NSCDC would not close its eyes while people embarked on illegality.

He also said that people should not allow their interest for material things to push them into taking unnecessary risks especially when it involves lives.

According to him, the demolition covers Oju-Ore Gas pipeline, Singer bus stop along Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

Olanrewaju explained that the second round of demolition would cover Ota, Oju-Ore, Obasanjo Road, Petedo and OPIC area in Agbara.

He stated that the Corps Commandant, Aboluwoye Akinwande, had approved the demolition exercise which would take place in batches after having served the occupants eviction notice several times.

Olanrewaju said: “The Corps hereby appeal to communities around the location of gas pipeline not to allow any person to erect structure on gas pipeline as the consequence of such action will have direct impact on their lives and environment.”
