IGP deploys more policemen to ensure hitch-free Easter

NIGERIA: THE Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Ibrahim Idris, has taken security measures to ensure crime and hitch-free Easter celebration.

He has ordered massive deployment of police personnel across the nooks and crannies of the country for crime prevention and control.

Idris gave the order in a news release signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, which was made available to GatewayMail on Thursday.

While felicitating with Christians on behalf the IGP, Moshood said: “Consequently, the Inspector General of Police has directed Assistant Inspectors General of Police in charge of Zonal commands and Commissioners of Police nationwide to be on ground throughout the celebration to supervise and implement the robust security arrangements and massive deployment of Police personnel throughout the Country for crime prevention and control, so as to ensure crime and hitch free celebration.”

Moshood also said that the deployment of the policemen will cover places of worships, recreation centres, venue of celebrations, other public places, public and private facilities.

“Consistent surveillance, intelligence gathering and continuous raid of criminal hideouts, black spots, flash/vulnerable points are already ongoing and will be sustained throughout the period,” he said.

Moshood added: “Vehicular and foot patrols and adequate visibility policing will also be embarked upon to guarantee safety of lives and property throughout the period.”

According to him, the IGP urged the public to cooperate with police highway patrol teams, the Special Anti- Robbery Squads and other police units deployed to prevent crime on the highways and major roads across the country.

Moshood explained that Idris had ordered the policemen to be civil, polite, but firm in ensuring the security and safety of travellers and other road users throughout the country.

He further said that the police boss gave additional assurance to Nigerians of the force renewed commitment in ensuring adequate safety of lives and property during this period and beyond.

“The IGP while wishing all Christians across the country a happy Easter celebration, enjoins them to extol the virtues of Jesus Christ by propagating peace, demonstrating love with their fellow citizens, irrespective of religious, ethnic or political inclination,” Moshood stressed.
